1899 Sterling Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers w/Cobalt Glass Inserts. Neither is marked with a maker's name; rather only being stamped on the underside with STERLING and the number 122 plus a very lightly etched 1899. The top of the salt shaker is gold washed to ensure against corrosion. The barrels have'window' piercing and are adorned with applied draped braided rope-like design. They are quite substantial; weighing almost 11 ounces - of which about 6-1/2 troy ounces is silver.
The lids are very-well form fitted and remain in place when in use. 4-1/8" tall and 1-7/8" across the base. Net weight of the set is 10.7 ounces WITH glass inserts in place. Net weight of the silver alone (when the cobalt blue inserts are removed) is 129.8 dwt (20 dwt = 1 troy ounce).
